Direction is one of the most significant aspects in Vaastu Shastra. The orientation and positioning of rooms, doors, windows, and other elements with respect to the compass points impacts the flow of energies in a space as per Vaastu. Some key pointers regarding directions are:
The east direction represents new beginnings. An east facing entrance or window allows the morning sun rays to enter, which signifies positivity and prosperity. Place the pooja room or study in the east. Avoid having a toilet here.
The west signifies endings or transitions. West facing entrances or openings may lead to loss of opportunities or finances. Minimize openings on the west side. Place bedrooms or storerooms in the west. Avoid having a kitchen on this side.
The north signifies permanence, constancy, and success. A north-facing entrance is excellent as per Vaastu. Place living rooms, master bedrooms and the cash safe in the north. Have fewer windows and avoid toilets on this side.
The south represents fertility, creativity, and vitality. Place the kitchen, dining room and temple on this side. Maximum openings can be in the south to allow abundant natural light and warmth from the sun. Avoid bedrooms on the south of the building.
The north-east signifies mental and physical health, auspiciousness and spiritual knowledge. It is the most important angle as per Vaastu. Place the pooja room, meditation area or gallery here. Do not have toilets or make major landscape changes in the north-east.
The south-east denotes elements of fire like cooking, energy, and activity. Place the kitchen in the south-east for maximum benefits. Having fewer doors or windows avoids loss of health and vitality in this area. Do not have bedrooms in the south-east.
The south-west signifies relationships and partnerships. This direction should be open and less cluttered. Place living rooms or the main entrance in the south-west. Do not have pools, staircases or toilets in the south-west which may lead to quarrels or loss of income.
The north-west represents the air element and means transience, travel or communication. Place guest rooms, office or conference rooms in the north-west. Have neutral decor without too many openings in this area. Avoid toilets in the north-west.
The center of any structure denotes stability and harmony. Keep this area open to allow maximum flow of energies within the space. Place a small mandala or courtyard in the center where possible. Do not have pillars, beams or partitions passing through the Brahmasthan.
The directions in which various rooms, doors or windows are placed impact their functions and the purpose they serve. Understanding the meaning and significance of each direction allows you to create balanced structures aligned with natural and cosmic energies as per Vaastu guidelines. Adhering to direction psychology helps bring harmony between inner and outer spaces inspiring health, happiness and prosperity.
Vaastu provides a logical basis for designing and constructing living spaces that optimize the flow of positive energies from all directions. While not always feasible to follow each rule, incorporating as many principles as possible helps life at home and work flow in a balanced, fulfilling manner. Through the wisdom of Vaastu Shastra, directions speak!
